Learning objectives

By the end, participants can:

  1. Write a Deep Research brief that names the question, the scope, and what a good answer looks like
  2. Edit the research plan before it runs, and say why that step matters
  3. Review a report against its citations and the sources it drew on (Google Search by default, plus Gmail, Drive, uploaded files and Gemini Notebook notebooks; a report takes about 5 to 10 minutes)
  4. Use Canvas to draft, edit and export a document or code (docs, code and web apps, and slides; exports to Google Docs, Slides and Colab, or a public link)
  5. Set up a scheduled action within the limits (up to 10 active scheduled actions, on personal accounts with Keep Activity on) and know what it is not for
  6. Choose between Deep Research, a notebook, the side panel and a chat for a given task

Executive summary

You will learn how to hand Gemini a research question and get a sourced report back, how to review that report properly, how to co-edit a document or a piece of code in Canvas instead of copying text in and out of chat, and how to schedule the small recurring tasks where your account allows it. End state is one Deep Research report on a question you actually have, reviewed against its sources, one document taken from brief to draft in Canvas, and a decision about scheduled actions. After this module you can write a research brief that produces a useful plan, edit the plan before it runs, read the report as a reviewer rather than a consumer, use Canvas for the editing loop and export the result, and say where Deep Research and Canvas fit against a notebook and the side panel.
