Copilot for Leaders

Leadership

Executives, IT and business leaders who own the decision to roll Microsoft 365 Copilot out, or who own the budget after someone else decided

Prerequisites: Module 401 (Copilot 101) or equivalent experience. Module 104 (AI for Your Team) recommended. No admin skills needed; access to whoever has them helps.

Learning objectives

By the end, participants can:

  1. Explain the licence tiers (Copilot Chat (Basic), Microsoft 365 Copilot (Basic), Microsoft 365 Copilot (Premium)) and the cost (Microsoft 365 Copilot Business add-on from $18 per user per month paid yearly (list $21), or $25.20 billed monthly) and decide who gets the add-on and who gets Chat
  2. Name the Purview controls that apply to Copilot (sensitivity labels with the EXTRACT usage right, Data Security Posture Management for AI, DLP, Insider Risk Management, audit, Communication Compliance, eDiscovery and retention) and the oversharing problem they exist for
  3. Describe Copilot controls (security and governance, management controls, measurement and reporting) and where agents are governed (Microsoft 365 admin center, Agents page and Agent Registry, with agent requests approved or rejected before an agent reaches the Agent Store)
  4. Read the Copilot Dashboard (the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard in Viva Insights, covering readiness, adoption, impact and sentiment, viewable without a Viva Insights or Copilot licence) and the admin-centre reports critically
  5. Place Microsoft's own training and certifications (MS-4004 Empower your workforce with Microsoft 365 Copilot Use Cases (one day), MS-4018 Draft, analyze, and present with Microsoft 365 Copilot, and MS-4023 Transform Ideas into Action with Copilot Chat, AB-900 Microsoft 365 Certified: Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals (45 minutes, beginner) and AB-620 Microsoft Certified: AI Agent Builder Associate (120 minutes, intermediate)) in a rollout, and write a 90-day plan with owners

Executive summary

You will learn what a Microsoft 365 Copilot rollout actually costs and buys, the Purview and Copilot controls that decide whether it is safe, the dashboards that tell you whether it is working, the Microsoft training and certification landscape, and a 90-day plan that survives contact with a real organisation. End state is a one-page rollout decision: who gets licences and why, the three governance controls you will insist on before day one, the two numbers you will report at day 90, and the named owners for each. After this module you can defend a licence count to a finance committee, ask an IT team the right three questions about oversharing, read the Copilot Dashboard without being led by it, and tell a vendor's adoption kit from your own plan.
